Description

Tulipa 'Yellow Jumbo Beauty' is a variety of single late tulip. This new variety is still not widely available in the market. This spectacular tulip produces a tall and sturdy stem which bears an exceptionally large, rounded, cup-shaped flower with pinkish-orange petals edged in yellow and finely streaked with white. Over the course of a few days, the cups open to reveal a yellow heart with black stamens. Dazzling in flower beds, it is also a sensational flower for bouquets. It blooms at the end of the tulip season, in late May.

Tulipa 'Yellow Jumbo Beauty' belongs to the Liliaceae family. Of horticultural origin, it is currently classified in Division 5. These late single tulips have the main characteristic of flowering late in the season. It will reach a height of 50 to 60cm (20 to 24in) when in bloom. The flowers appear at the top of weather-resistant stems, well above the broadly lanceolate leaves. The flowers are large and round, with a vibrant pinkish-orange that becomes bright yellow at the edges. This colour is repeated inside the cup, at the base of the petals. Flowering takes place in May-June.

Late single tulips are renowned for their rich colours, sturdy and resistant flowers, and suitability for both flower beds and bouquets. They are already among the most planted varieties. They are unmatched for bringing the colours of spring to pots or sunny gardens. When designing your flower beds, you must consider the height and flowering period of the tulips, as these parameters can vary significantly from one cultivar to another. It is wise to plant extra bulbs for bouquets, as they make superb cut flowers that last a long time in a vase.

Planting and care

Plant the bulbs in autumn, from September to December. Choose a sunny or partially shaded location. Plant in ordinary, slightly acidic, neutral, or slightly alkaline, loose, well-worked, and well-draining soil. Never add poorly decomposed manure or compost to the planting soil, as this could cause the bulbs to rot. Plant the bulbs at a depth of 15cm (6in), spacing them 10cm (4in) apart. The bulbs will grow well in moist to dry soil in summer. Once flowering is finished, it is wise to remove the fruits to avoid exhausting the plant.
