Description

The 'Salmon Prince' Early Single Tulip is delightful with its lovely colour and modest size in March and April. Its perfectly shaped flowers display a salmon, orange hue, enhanced with a fuchsia pink wash. It proves to be excellent in the garden, in beds or borders, and also in vases. Its short and sturdy stems withstand the spring weather. It is subtle and refined and complements all floral compositions in pastel tones.

The 'Salmon Prince' Tulip belongs to the Lily family. Of horticultural origin, it is currently classified in Division 1, which gathers early flowering varieties with single flowers. It reaches a height of 30 to 35 cm when in bloom. Perched on sturdy stems, well above the widely lanceolate leaves, the narrow cup-shaped, 6 cm wide flowers, display six "petals" (more precisely tepals) washed with a slightly deeper pink on an orange background. Flowering takes place in March or April, at the beginning of the tulip season.

Early single tulips are known for their wide range of colours and their robust flowers that enhance both beds and bouquets. Excellent for introducing spring colour in pots, where they last longer than other types of tulips, they are also perfect for sunny gardens. When planning your beds, it is crucial to consider the height and flowering time, which can vary significantly depending on the cultivar. It is a good idea to plant a few extra bulbs as they make beautiful long-lasting cut flowers. Plant 'Salmon Prince' amidst orange foliage like that of 'Marmalade' Heuchera or variegated foliage like 'Evergold' Carex.

Their distribution area also includes North Africa and the Indian subcontinent. Planting and care

Plant 'Salmon Prince' tulip bulbs in the autumn, from September to December, at a depth of 15 cm, spacing them 10 cm apart in ordinary, slightly acidic, neutral, or slightly alkaline, loose, well-worked, and well-draining soil. Never add manure or poorly decomposed compost to the planting soil, as this could cause the bulbs to rot. The 'Salmon Prince' tulip will thrive in moist to dry soil in the summer in a sunny or partially shaded location. After flowering, it is best to remove the seed heads to avoid exhausting the bulb.
