Half-standard fruit trees are trees grafted onto a trunk of 1m to 1.40m, bearing a crown. Taller than a goblet, shorter than a standard, they offer a good compromise for an orchard or a medium to large garden. This form clears the base of the trunk, makes it easier to move around the tree and gives early harvests at a reasonable height. Plant fairly far apart so that the branches can develop without competition.

Among the varieties on offer, the ‘Cox Orange Pippin’ apple tree produces fragrant, fine, slightly tart apples, very pleasant to bite into. The ‘Belle de Boskoop’ apple tree produces large, tart fruits, used in baking as well as in compotes, with good storage potential. The ‘Williams’ Bon Chrétien’ pear tree produces yellow, melting and sweet pears from the end of summer. As for plums, ‘Reine Claude Dorée’ remains a reliable choice for its round, juicy and highly aromatic fruits. As is often the case in the orchard, it is useful to check pollination requirements before planting a variety.
