Description

Oteospermum is a not very hardy perennial with evergreen foliage, usually grown as an annual in temperate climates.

The Softly Pink variety is white with a pink tint.

Its daisy-shaped flowers - the perfect daisy of a child's drawing, with tight, intricately cut petals and a black centre - are stunning in pots in cold regions, and in the ground in areas protected from heavy frosts.

Young plants measuring 4 to 8cm (2 to 3in) in trays of 5 small plugs, 2.8cm (1in) in diameter and 4cm (2in) high. Our plants are at least eight weeks old and strong enough to be planted in the ground.

Note: Please be aware that our young plug plants are professional products intended for experienced gardeners. Upon receipt, transplant and store them in a sheltered place (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame, etc.) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before planting them outdoors once the risk of frost has definitively passed.

Planting and care

Plant your Osteospermums in open ground after the last frost, in a sunny location. You can also plant them in pots placed in a sheltered position, which you will take out in May. If you plant them in open ground, wait until the frost has passed. Osteospermums require well-drained soil, but not necessarily very rich. Water moderately. In pots, regular watering is necessary in summer. Regularly remove faded flowers to prolong flowering. You can preserve your osteospermums by bringing them inside to a veranda or cold greenhouse in winter. They can tolerate a light frost, but they can only survive winter in the garden if they are in a location protected from severe frost.
